Why the work is steady

In the Mid-South, gutters work all year

Spring storm lines, summer thunderstorms, a fall leaf drop under willow oaks and sweetgums, and soaking winter rain. Every season gives a Memphis gutter a job, and that keeps our crews busy.

A Memphis roofline takes a beating. The city averages about 55 inches of rain a year, and April is the wettest month, when storm lines roll through one after another and dump an inch or more in an hour. From late October the willow oaks, maples and sweetgums let go of everything they have, right ahead of the December rains. When the water cannot get out of the trough, it spills over the fascia and lands against the foundation, and the clay-heavy soil across Shelby County does not forgive that. That is the call our crews answer, over and over, across the Mid-South.

The year has a rhythm. Fall is leaf season, with clean-outs as the hardwoods drop and gutter guards going on before the wet months. Winter brings overflow calls and repairs when wind or a falling limb pulls a section loose. Spring is storm season and the busiest stretch for repairs. Summer is thunderstorm season and the long days for new installs. You can see how we plan the work around it on our maintenance program page.

The work is varied too. The same crews form seamless gutters on site and handle repairs, cleanings, BroGuard micro-mesh guards, fascia and underground drainage. One day is a brick ranch in Bartlett, the next is a two-story home in Collierville or a commercial roofline in Memphis.

Gutter Installer: seamless runs, formed on the driveway

Our installers are the reason a home stays dry through a Memphis spring storm. You form seamless gutters on site from a coil on the truck, cut every run to the exact length of the roofline and hang it so the water goes where it should. The same crews handle repairs, cleanings, BroGuard micro-mesh guards, fascia and drainage. We hire at three levels, so you can come in with no gutter experience at all, bring a couple of years of carpentry or exterior work, or bring real gutter experience, K-style and half-round, and start at the experienced level.

Sales: Solutionists, not salespeople

We do not call the person who visits a home a salesman. We call them a Solutionist, because that is the job: walk the roofline, figure out what the house actually needs, explain it in plain language and give the homeowner a straight written quote. Most of the appointments come from homeowners who called us and asked for an estimate. The Sales Representative runs those estimates. The Sales Professional and Business Development role does that too, and also builds relationships with builders, property managers and referral partners across the Mid-South.

Administrative Assistant: the person who keeps it all moving

Every estimate, install and cleaning starts with a phone call and a spot on the schedule. Our Administrative Assistant answers the phones and email, books appointments, sends invoices, follows up on leads and keeps the crews and Solutionists on track from our Memphis office. If you stay organized when the phone keeps ringing, this is the seat for you.

A day on the crew

What a Mid-South install day actually looks like

Mornings start at the shop with the schedule and a loaded box truck. Here is the rest of the day, from the first stop to the clean-up.

  1. Load up and roll out.Check the day’s jobs at the shop, load the box truck and head out of Memphis to homes across Shelby County and beyond.
  2. Walk the roofline.Look over the run, the outlets and where the water needs to land before anything comes off the truck.
  3. Form it right there.Seamless gutters come off the machine on the truck, cut to the exact length of the roofline, so each run is one piece.
  4. Lift and fit.Runs get lifted into place and fitted from the ladder, whether it is a one-story brick ranch, a two-story brick traditional or a commercial building.
  5. Hang it straight and tight.Set the pitch for spring downpours, then seal, guard and flush every downspout.
  6. Leave it better.Walk the job with the homeowner, clean up every scrap and head to the next one.

Cleanup days in leaf season

Not every day is an install. From late October into December, a lot of the work is clearing gutters from the ladder: willow oak and maple leaves and sweetgum balls come out by hand, and downspouts get flushed before the winter rain. In spring it is oak tassels and the grit that storms wash off the shingles. It is honest, physical work, and it teaches you more about how water moves on a roof than any classroom could.

Work you can point to

Every run you hang is a home that stays dry for years. You will drive past your own work all over the Mid-South, from Midtown and East Memphis to Collierville, Arlington and Atoka. Few jobs let you point out the truck window on the drive home and say “I did that.”

Growth and fit

The Skills Ladder, and who does well here

You should know exactly what it takes to move up before you start. That is the point of the Skills Ladder.

How you grow

Everyone trains on the Brothers system. You learn how we measure, form, hang and quote, and why, and nobody gets thrown on a ladder and left to figure it out. Our installer postings describe a Skills Ladder program that lays out the career path, the expectations and how raises work, so you always know what it takes to get to the next level.

The three installer levels show where that path runs. You can start as an Entry Level Gutter Installer at $17 to $20 an hour with no gutter experience. Gutter Installers, with 2+ years of carpentry or exterior construction work, earn $22 to $30 an hour plus commission on completed work. Experienced Gutter Installers bring 2+ years of skilled gutter work and earn $20 to $30 an hour. Ask to see the Skills Ladder when you apply. Solutionists train on our products and the Brothers way and grow into the person Mid-South homeowners trust to tell them the truth about their roofline.

What we look for

  • You like working outside and with your hands.
  • You show up on time and finish what you start.
  • You are comfortable on a ladder.
  • You take pride in a clean, straight line.
  • You like people and you listen first.
  • You would rather be honest than pushy.
  • You are organized and follow through.
  • You have a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.

What you do not need

  • Gutter experience, for the Entry Level Gutter Installer role.
  • Your own gutter machine. Seamless runs come off the machine on our truck.
  • Your own vehicle for the job. Installer and sales postings list a company car.
  • A hard-sell personality. Most sales appointments come from homeowners who asked for an estimate.
  • To guess what a raise takes. The Skills Ladder lays it out up front.
  • A polished resume. A real person on our Memphis team reads every application.

The team behind the name

Two cousins, one Memphis office, one standard for every roofline

Will Tashie and Trace Cisneros run this franchise themselves, out of our office on Shelby Oaks Drive, and they are on the jobs with the crew.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Central Mid-South is locally owned by Will Tashie, who runs it with his cousin and partner Trace Cisneros. They are not owners you only hear about. Homeowners have named them in reviews for leading the work on site and walking them through the finished job. Their promise to homeowners is simple, and it is the standard you work to: show up on time, do clean work and tell the truth about what a home needs. You can read their story on our about page.

That local ownership comes with a national backbone. The Brothers That Just Do Gutters grew out of the gutter company Ken Parsons started in 1999, which he built with his brother Ryan. The brand calls its people Solutionists instead of salespeople and has spent more than 25 years doing nothing but gutters. Homeowners already know the name, so you walk up to every door with a head start.

What that looks like day to day

  • Every review gets published, positive or negative. The team would rather earn trust than manage it.
  • A local number and a local team. Nobody is routed to another state.
  • Written, itemized estimates: repair when repair is right, replace when it is not.
  • Aluminum, copper and galvanized options. Nothing plastic on the roofline.
  • A Skills Ladder with the path, expectations and raises spelled out up front.
  • Owners who work the jobs with the crew and know what the work asks.

What homeowners say about the crew

The reviews describe the crew you would be joining. One Mid-South homeowner wrote that “Trace and Will led the work on site and walked us through everything when the work was done.” Another called the team “courteous, professional, and honest” and noted that “they even took the scraps with them.” A third praised the “friendly and competent service technicians who kept us informed of each step of the process.” That is the standard, and it is one a good tradesperson is proud to meet.

From the crew: if you are 18 or older with a valid driver’s license and you are curious about the trade, the Entry Level Gutter Installer role was built for you. You learn the Brothers system on the job, and the Skills Ladder shows you the path from there.
